Loneliness

Is my nearly constant companion

Not invited, but pushing in

A violation of High Tea’s decorum

Transgression of boundaries

A shadow of knowing what’s real

Avoided by keeping busy

Filling space with conversation

And doing

Sometimes successful

Yet always there waiting,

resting in my favorite chair

Looking at the water

Waiting for the Moon to show her magnificent splendor

At once hidden by and focused on by Loneliness

I am reminded of the glorious beauty

Of the entire universe

And of life

Full emotional living

Dancing in the kitchen, naked of protection

Until Loneliness shows its face

Robing me of hope and dreams

I make room for you at the table

But will not let you eat all the delicacies

Will not let you drink all the wine

Loneliness dogs me too on occasion, and I just say, “Hello, it’s you again” and then move on knowing I’m not alone. I love how you put it that you aren’t going to let Loneliness eat all of the delicacies or drink the good wine. Here! Here to that! We are too strong and joy-filled to allow that. Love you Janet and your writing.

I am so glad that you are hearing the common language that we all share on some level. Thank you Linnea!
