If you were the aster

posted in: Poems | 5

If you were the aster with

Fringe-like purple pedals

Standing among the brown ferns

Golden grasses and fallen leaves

You would make no apologies

For yourself or

Your purpose or place

In the order of things

You would claim your season

To blossom and bloom

You would claim your lavender

Spring like beauty

You would never apologize

For who you are

Or the timing of your life

You would not care if you fit in

Or if you were different

Or when your radiance appeared

Your burgeoning would be your own

And you would delight in it

Oh, to be like the aster
